Baseball Game Preview: Garfield Bulldogs vs. Seattle Academy Cardinals

The Garfield Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the Seattle Academy Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Neither Garfield nor Seattle Academy posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Garfield came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Eastside Catholic, falling 11-1.

Garfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lockie McIver, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Seattle Academy took on Lakeside on Friday. The Cardinals narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Lions 1-0. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cardinals as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Eli Herst was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over 6.1 innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Seattle Academy pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Garfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
