Basketball Game Preview: Thornwell Saints vs. Dixie Hornets

Thornwell hasn't had much luck against Dixie recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Thornwell Saints will get right back to it and host the Dixie Hornets at 6:00 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 65-14, which was the final score in Thornwell's tilt against Greenwood Christian on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while the Hawks are ranked 117th).

Kendra Wilson was Thornwell's leading scorer, having posted six points.

Meanwhile, Dixie ended up a good deal behind Ninety Six on Wednesday and lost 46-29. The Hornets have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Thornwell's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Dixie, they now have a losing record at 6-7.

Thornwell might still be hurting after the 51-30 loss they got from Dixie in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Dixie's Kerrie O'Shields, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten steals.
