Baseball Recap: The Heights Takes a Loss

The Heights had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-13 to make it four. They came up short against the DeMatha Stags, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against DeMatha this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.

The Heights saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Don McLaughlin, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for DeMatha, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.

On DeMatha's side, Gabriel Chapman spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits. Chapman has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Johnathan Coombs was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Zach Perlin was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Coincidentally, The Heights and DeMatha will both be playing Our Lady of Good Counsel the next time they take the field. The Heights will head out to face Our Lady of Good Counsel at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while DeMatha will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
