It was a Battle of the Birds when Greenwood Christian challenged Richard Winn Academy on Thursday. The Hawks blew past the Eagles 8-2. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

Leland Reed made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other batting news, Jacob Lee was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Greenwood Christian: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kade Heaton, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Greenwood Christian lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The win got Greenwood Christian back to even at 7-7. As for Richard Winn Academy, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3.

Coming up, Greenwood Christian will host Abbeville at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Richard Winn Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fairfield Central at 1:00 p.m. on the 14th.
