Baseball Game Preview: Mexia Black Cats vs. Fairfield Eagles

The Mexia Black Cats will challenge the Fairfield Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mexia will be strutting in after a victory while Fairfield will be coming in after a defeat.

On Thursday, Mexia got the win against Westwood by a conclusive 15-5. The Black Cats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

Adriano Mendoza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mexia is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-11 otherwise. Mendoza was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Aaden Cargile was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Mexia's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 5-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Gabe Solis, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, after a string of 14 wins, Fairfield's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Teague.

Fairfield's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 16-3. As for Mexia, their win ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 8-12.
