Football Recap: Garey Comes Up Short at Home Against Walnut

Garey unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were dealt a 37-7 defeat at the hands of the Walnut Mustangs on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost four in a row.

Walnut got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Christopher Mardueno out in front who rushed for 63 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries. Mardueno didn't just play on offense: he also made three total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Nohlen Simons was another key passer, throwing for 260 yards and a pair of TDs on only 17 passes.

Looking ahead, Garey will face off against Pomona at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Walnut, they will take on Montclair at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
