Baseball Recap: Cordova Gets the Win

Cordova let Destiny Christian Academy stack five runs on them in the fifth inning on Saturday but luckily Cordova prevailed anyway. The Lancers narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Lions 10-8. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lancers considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Levi Nyberg made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up five earned runs off three hits. Nyberg was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Cordova let Gabriel Bargas and Nate Jones run wild. Bargas got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Jones got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most RBI Bargas has posted since back in March of 2025. Sawyer Nyberg was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Cordova always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Destiny Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .412.

The victory got Cordova back to even at 1-1.

Coming up, Cordova will look to defend their home field on Monday against Union Mine at 3:30 p.m. As for Destiny Christian Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Burbank at 3:30 p.m. on the 24th.
