Basketball Recap: Ocosta Comes Up Short

Ocosta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a blow against the Willapa Valley Vikings, falling 55-18. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 61-30 back in January.

Despite the defeat, Ocosta had strong showings from Gabby Ness, who posted four points in addition to six boards and five steals, and Elly Mirante, who earned six points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Ness a new career-high in steals.

Even though they lost, Ocosta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Tylar Keeton continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Willapa Valley, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Keeton's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Lauren Matlock, who put up four points along with nine rebounds, six assists, and five steals.

Ocosta's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Willapa Valley, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.

Ocosta has already played their next game, a 64-31 defeat against Naselle on the 7th. Willapa Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
