Basketball Recap: Mathews Comes Up Short

Mathews and Northumberland squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Mathews had to settle for second. They fell 68-55 to the Northumberland Indians. The defeat continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Indians: they've now lost seven in a row.

It was another big night for Tyreek Lundy, who dropped a double-double with 31 points and 11 boards for Northumberland. Lundy has become a key player for Northumberland: the team is 14-1 when he posts at least 20 points, but 1-2 otherwise. JD Barber was another key player, putting up 15 points and five rebounds.

Mathews' loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Northumberland, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.

Mathews does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Northumberland, they will challenge Lancaster at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lancaster comes in on four and Northumberland on eight.
