Baseball Recap: Point Pleasant Boro Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Point Pleasant Boro ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past the Freehold Boro Colonials 4-3. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 10-2 victory the Colonials walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Point Pleasant Boro got a great performance from Landon Hoyle as he pitched 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off ten hits. Hoyle also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Panthers are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Point Pleasant Boro's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jake Clayton, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Hudson Griffin was another, earning two runs and one stolen base.

The victory made it two in a row for Point Pleasant Boro and bumps their season record up to 9-10. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Freehold Boro, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 9-10 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Point Pleasant Boro will host Red Bank Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Freehold Boro, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Manchester Township at 10:00 a.m.
