Baseball Recap: Republic County Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Republic County had to endure a 17-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the Valley Heights Mustangs on Tuesday by a score of 15-4 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The Buffaloes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Aden Morris made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Republic County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-17 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Adam Krohn was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Conner Sheetz, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Republic County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive matches.

Republic County's record now sits at 2-18. As for Valley Heights, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.

Republic County will head out to square off against Ellsworth at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Valley Heights, they will be playing at home against Frankfort at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight.
