Basketball Recap: Stratford Comes Up Short

Stratford and Fulshear squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Stratford had to settle for second. They fell 59-47 to the Fulshear Chargers. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while the Chargers are ranked 72nd).

Fulshear's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ruke Ogbevire led the charge by putting up 14 points in addition to seven boards and six assists. Ogbevire is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Pfeiffer Greene was another key player, going 5-for-12 on her way to 13 points and three blocks.

Stratford's defeat dropped their record down to 21-10. As for Fulshear, the victory (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 29-7.

Stratford does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fulshear, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 47-32 loss against Fort Bend Hightower on the 18th.
