Softball Recap: Piedmont's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Two

Piedmont won the last time they faced Monroe and things went their way on Thursday too. The Panthers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Redhawks an 18-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Lilli Leopold made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Emalie Jackson was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Abbie Evans was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

The victory made it two in a row for Piedmont and bumps their season record up to 9-4. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-11 Monroe and 4-10 Anson. As for Monroe, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Piedmont wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 6-2 win against Hickory Ridge on the 28th. As for Monroe, they have also already played their next contest, a 25-4 loss against Anson on the 3rd.
