Softball Preview: Warsaw Tigers vs. Hornell Red Raiders
The Warsaw Tigers will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Hornell Red Raiders at 4:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Warsaw was able to grind out a solid victory over Geneseo, taking the game 6-3.
Meanwhile, Hornell has not done well against Bolivar-Richburg recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Thursday. Hornell had just enough and edged Bolivar-Richburg out 9-7. Hornell's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Lexi Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. Smith was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Kadience Gollnitz was incredible, going 1-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Warsaw now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Hornell, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-4.
Warsaw was able to grind out a solid victory over Hornell in their previous matchup back in April of 2016, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Warsaw since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
