Dane Lockhart and Trey Smith secure win for Genoa-Hugo/Karval

The Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They pulled ahead with a 41-40 photo finish over Kit Carson. That's another feather in the cap for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.

Leading Genoa-Hugo/Karval to victory were Dane Lockhart and Trey Smith. Lockhart scored six points along with nine rebounds and five steals, while Smith scored 20 points along with five rebounds. Smith continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played.

When it comes to explaining why Kit Carson lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brennan Framel. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Framel has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Josiah Irwin, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. As for Kit Carson, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-14.
