Baseball Game Preview: Gridley Bulldogs vs. Corning Cardinals

For the second straight game, Gridley will face off against Corning. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Gridley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Gridley had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Corning on Tuesday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 15-2 victory. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Eli Punzo made a splash no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Punzo was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tanner Abbott was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Luis Murillo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Gridley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corning only posted an OBP of .273.

Gridley's victory bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Corning, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-13.
