Baseball Recap: Centennial Takes a Loss

Centennial extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-12. They lost 11-0 to the Holdrege Dusters. The Broncos were not able to make up for their loss to the Dusters from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.

As for Holdrege, their win ended an eight-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-10. The result was nothing new for the Dusters, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Holdrege's part, Grayson Popple made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Popple also allowed no hits, which is notable because Holdrege is 4-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 3-9 otherwise. Popple was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cam Waldo was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Holdrege's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Chance Bailey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Coming up, Centennial will be playing at home against Louisville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Holdrege, they will take on York at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Dusters' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dukes have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
