Softball Game Preview: Charlotte Catholic Cougars vs. Independence Patriots

Charlotte Catholic is 1-7 against Independence since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Charlotte Catholic will challenge Independence at 5:30 p.m.

Charlotte Catholic came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 9-3 to Providence.

Meanwhile, Independence waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-9 victory over the Knights. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted since May 2, 2024.

Morgan Clark was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Gianna McCloud was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Clark wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.

Independence's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Charlotte Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Charlotte Catholic suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Independence when the teams last played on March 7th. Can Charlotte Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
