Preview: Orange Lions vs. Hawken Hawks
The Orange Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Hawken Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Orange and five for Hawken dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Orange had to suffer through a rough 63-30 loss at the hands of Richmond Heights. While losing is never fun, Orange can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 549th, while Richmond Heights is ranked 95th).
Meanwhile, Hawken was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 59-53 to West Geauga.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Julia Scales, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. She scored a full 37.7% of Hawken's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Sarah Liu, who scored 18 points along with four steals.
Even though they lost, Hawken were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Orange's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Hawken, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-4.
Orange came up short against Hawken when the teams last played back in January, falling 61-53. Can Orange avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
