Baseball Recap: Tempe Comes Up Short

Tempe extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 2-15. They lost 17-0 to the Yuma Criminals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Criminals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 on Monday.

As for Yuma, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games.

For Yuma's part, the team relied heavily on Landon Englebrecht, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave Englebrecht a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethen Schmidgall, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Tempe will square off against Browne at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Buffaloes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Yuma, they will take on ALA - Queen Creek at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Criminals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
