Football Game Preview: Lamar Thunder vs. Florence Huskies + How To Watch

Two dominant signal callers in Jacob Dunning and Noah Howard are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Lamar Thunder will be playing in front of their home fans against the Florence Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lamar's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last three contests.

On Friday, Lamar got the win against Banning Lewis Academy by a conclusive 38-12. Considering the Thunder have won five games by more than 25 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Lamar's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cason Pollart, who picked up 163 receiving yards and three scores. Pollart is becoming a predictor of the Thunder's success: when he posts at least 80 receiving yards the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Adriel Gonzalez was another key rusher, rushing for 112 yards and one TD.

Lamar didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Banning Lewis Academy to a completion percentage of just 39%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Pollart and Maverick Medina, who each logged two passes deflected. Lamar hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.5 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Florence unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 44-21 to La Junta. The Huskies were up 14-0 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Lamar's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Florence, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.

Everything went Lamar's way against Florence when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as Lamar made off with a 34-14 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Howard, who rushed for 89 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Thunder still be able to contain Howard? There's only one way to find out.
