Baseball Recap: Four Straight Home Wins for Lowville

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Lowville and Beaver River, and Lowville kept the tradition alive. The Red Raiders skirted past the Beavers 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Red Raiders: when they faced off against the Beavers on Wednesday, they had to take a 3-0 loss.

Devin Sweirnik was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Brycen Villiere was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Spence, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Lowville pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Beaver River, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2.

Lowville and Beaver River should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Red Raiders will face off against Indian River at 6:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (243 vs. 496). Meanwhile, Beaver River (ranked 116th) will meet Carthage (ranked 452nd) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
