Softball Game Preview: Richland Center Hornets vs. Platteville Hillmen

Richland Center is 0-10 against Platteville since May of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hillmen at 5:00 p.m. Richland Center's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Platteville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Richland Center is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Mauston a 15-0 shutout on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Hornets with their most commanding win of the season.

Kyree Fischer made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Darling, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those runs were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Tatum Reyzek, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Richland Center always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Platteville fell victim to Cuba City and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cubans. The game marked the first time this season in which the Hillmen were not able to get on the board.

Platteville's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Richland Center, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.

Richland Center couldn't quite finish off Platteville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 10-8. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
