Softball Game Preview: Ridgewood Maroons vs. Bergen Tech Knights

Ridgewood is 0-3 against Bergen Tech since April of 2023 but things could change on Friday. The Maroons will face off against the Knights at 4:15 p.m.

Ridgewood is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Northern Highlands.

Meanwhile, Bergen Tech got the win against Payne Tech on Thursday by a conclusive 11-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Shannon Quigley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Quigley was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryleigh Lange, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Jenny Xu was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Bergen Tech hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matchups.

Bergen Tech pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ridgewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Ridgewood couldn't quite finish off Bergen Tech when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Maroons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
