Basketball Recap: Riley Monarco's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Primero over Custer County

Primero lost against Custer County back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Primero Bulldogs took a 43-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Custer County Bobcats. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Primero's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Riley Monarco, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Aimee Mincic, who scored six points along with seven assists and five boards.

Even though they lost, Primero smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Primero's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Custer County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-8.

Coming up, Primero won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hanover at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Primero is facing Hanover at the right time seeing as Hanover is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Custer County, they will also get right back to it: they'll face off against Trinidad at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
