Basketball Recap: The First Academy Picks Up Sixth Straight Win on the Road

The First Academy hadn't done well against Lake Highland Prep recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The First Academy Royals snuck past the Lake Highland Prep Highlanders with a 43-39 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Royals sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Several Highlanders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Myanna Hatchette, who went 6 for 11 on her way to 15 points and three blocks. The matchup was Hatchette's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Valeria Munoz, who posted 14 points.

The First Academy's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.3 points per game. As for Lake Highland Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

The First Academy has already played their next contest, a 53-32 victory against North Tampa Christian Academy on the 25th. As for Lake Highland Prep, they will be playing at home against Wekiva at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
