Football Recap: Leavitt Starts Season with Win Against Hampden

Leavitt gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They claimed a resounding 50-8 win over the Hampden Broncos. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Maine football rankings (they are ranked third, while the Broncos are ranked 55th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Hampden lost, don't look at Julian McEwen. Despite the final result, he picked up 96 receiving yards and one TD. McEwen got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 67 yards.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Leavitt will challenge rival Greely at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Hampden is set to face off against their familiar foe Brewer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
