Baseball Game Preview: Clinton-Massie Falcons vs. Hillsboro Indians

The Clinton-Massie Falcons will venture away from home to take on the Hillsboro Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Clinton-Massie made up a huge gap compared to their last game against New Richmond, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Falcons never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, Hillsboro hadn't done well against Miami Trace recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Indians put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 10-2 victory.

Luke Holland made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He is becoming a predictor of Hillsboro's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is undefeated (and 0-5 when he doesn't). Holland was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He also put up two RBI, which were his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach Brown, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Brown is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Jack Cornele, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Clinton-Massie now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Hillsboro, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5.

Clinton-Massie was able to grind out a solid victory over Hillsboro in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, winning 8-5. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
