Softball Recap: Meridian Continues Home Dominance on Monday

Meridian got themselves on the board against Clinton on Monday, but Clinton never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Maroons with a sharp 17-0 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by eight runs or more this season.

Ashley Schelling made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Meridian let Katelyn Clapp and Julia Meisenhelter run wild. Clapp went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Meisenhelter went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Clapp has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Childers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Meridian pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Clinton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Meridian will face off against Warrensburg-Latham at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Clinton, they will challenge Argenta-Oreana at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Maroons will need to watch out since the Bombers have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
