Volleyball Game Preview: Cabrillo Conquistadores vs. Lompoc Braves

The Cabrillo Conquistadores are taking a road trip to face off against the Lompoc Braves at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lompoc took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Cabrillo, who comes in off a win.

Cabrillo took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Mission College Prep 3-0. The victory continues a trend for the Conquistadores in their matchups with the Royals: they've now won four in a row.

Cabrillo was especially dominant in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-14.

Cabrillo's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ethan Poquette, who had seven digs and seven aces, and Cody Lawton, who had three aces. Those seven aces gave Poquette a new career-high.

They weren't the only good server: Cabrillo was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. They are 6-1 when they serve at least ten aces.

Meanwhile, Lompoc was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 3-0 to Pioneer Valley.

The final score came out to 25-13, 25-5, 25-9.

Cabrillo's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Lompoc, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.

Everything went Cabrillo's way against Lompoc in their previous meeting back in March, as Cabrillo made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Conquistadores since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
