Softball Game Preview: Middlesex Chargers vs. Mathews Blue Devils

The Middlesex Chargers will take on the Mathews Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mathews will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Middlesex extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. Everything went the Chargers' way against Charles City as they made off with a 15-1 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Chargers considering their two-run performance the game before.

Courtney Jessie made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Middlesex got a massive performance out of Carly Jessie, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave Jessie a new career-high. Kyla Blazek was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Mathews got the win against King & Queen Central on Tuesday by a conclusive 17-5.

Middlesex now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Mathews, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.

Middlesex came out on top in a nail-biter against Mathews in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 10-8. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
