Football Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Valley View's Winning Streak

Valley View dropped down to 5-4 on Friday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins. They received a blow as they fell 28-10 to the Poly Bears. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Jesse Vega threw for 147 yards and one touchdown. Alex Ramirez was his top target, picking up 82 receiving yards and one TD.

As for Poly, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-3. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.8 points on average over those games.

A big part of Poly's victory came down to the chemistry between Marjok Gustafson and his top target Matt Henry. Gustafson threw for 178 yards and three touchdowns while Henry picked up 87 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Gustafson's passing game has become a key predictor of Poly's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Valley View is set to square off against their familiar foe Hillcrest at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Poly will challenge rival Arlington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
