Volleyball Recap: Sioux Falls Lutheran Comes Up Short at Home Against Gayville-Volin

Sioux Falls Lutheran unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Gayville-Volin Raiders on Thursday, falling 3-0. If Sioux Falls Lutheran was looking for revenge after losing 3-1 to Gayville-Volin when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Sioux Falls Lutheran was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-23, 25-19.

Their offense was headlined by Tessa Van Gerpen and Rylee Steuerwald, who picked up six kills apiece. They got some help from Sophie Stubkjaer and her 13 assists. Finally, Madilyn Dinges kept Sioux Falls Lutheran's defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sioux Falls Lutheran is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Sioux Falls Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gayville-Volin, they will challenge Canistota at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
