Basketball Recap: Galax Maroon Tide vs. Grayson County Blue Devils
While the Galax Maroon Tide couldn't quite beat the Grayson County Blue Devils on Friday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 28-point defeat they were dealt last Wednesday. Galax fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 42-39. Galax has struggled against the Blue Devils recently, as their contest on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grayson County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Austin Dowell, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mac Goad, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Galax's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Grayson County, their victory bumped their record up to 7-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Galax will take on the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Grayson County, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Pioneers at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Virginia (Fort Chiswell is ranked 285th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 305th).
