Basketball Game Preview: Rock Point Cougars vs. Valley Pirates + Official Tickets

The Rock Point Cougars will head out to take on the Valley Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Valley took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Rock Point, who comes in off a win.

While Cougars fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Wednesday's season opener. They came out on top against Many Farms by a score of 48-39 on Wednesday.

Rock Point's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quintin Yazzie, who shot 50% from the field en route to 19 points and six steals. Yazzie has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lemarquis Begay, who posted ten points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Rock Point was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Meanwhile, Valley suffered their biggest defeat since December 21, 2024 on Thursday. They took a blow against Alchesay, falling 56-14.

Rock Point ended up a good deal behind Valley in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, losing 58-41. Thankfully for the Cougars, Eric Slim (who went 11-for-21 on his way to 27 points and six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
