Basketball Recap: St. Paul Wildcats vs. Centura Centurions

St. Paul was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They took a 40-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Centura Centurions. The contest was a 16-16 toss-up at halftime, but the Wildcats couldn't quite close it out.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aubree Fitzgerald, who posted 12 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. Fitzgerald has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlee Wegner, who went 6 for 15 en route to 15 points.

Centura found their leader in freshman Taya Taukiuvea, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. Jenna Fanta was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.

St. Paul's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Centura, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Paul will venture away from home to square off against Centura at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th. As for Centura, they are taking a road trip to take on Ravenna at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Centura is facing Ravenna at the right time seeing as Ravenna is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
