Softball Recap: Lowell Drops Season-High Score on Oakridge

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lowell). They were the clear victors by a 22-11 margin over the Oakridge Warriors on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Devils in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won six in a row.

Marley Plahn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maddy Thurman and Cheyanne McNamee did most of the damage at the plate: Thurman went 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs, while McNamee went a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those four hits gave Thurman a new career-high. Kaylie Dodson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Lowell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Lowell's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Oakridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Lowell will venture away from home to face off against Eddyville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Oakridge, they will host North Douglas at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. North Douglas will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Oakridge surely won't give up without a fight.
