Basketball Recap: Parrish Community Takes a Loss

On Friday, the Parrish Community Bulls had to suffer through a 56-19 loss at the hands of the Countryside Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Bulls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 378th, while the Cougars are ranked 143rd).

Despite the defeat, Parrish Community saw an underclassman step up: freshman Romana Lind dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Lind is becoming a predictor of Parrish Community's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 3-1 (and 1-6 when she doesn't). Riley Lee was another key player, putting up four points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Parrish Community smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 32 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Parrish Community has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Countryside, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.

After both having extra time off, Parrish Community and Manatee will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Manatee will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Parrish Community surely won't give up without a fight. As for Countryside, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Clearwater Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
