Softball Game Preview: Lexington Golden Bears vs. Russellville Golden Tigers

The Lexington Golden Bears will take on the Russellville Golden Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Lexington gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Clements by a score of 11-8. The victory continues a trend for the Golden Bears in their matchups with the Colts: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, Russellville came into Thursday's match having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Haleyville with a sharp 14-3 win on Thursday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Golden Tigers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Kaylee Suggs spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Khristian Huerta, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Alexia Groce, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs.

Lexington's victory bumped their record up to 5-13. As for Russellville, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 5-23.

Lexington came up short against Russellville when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Golden Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
