Baseball Recap: Hawley Snags Fourth Win in Last Five Games

Hawley barely beat Albany the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bearcats' pitchers stepped up to hand the Lions an 8-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Aiden Romo and Keegan Ables made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Romo pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Ables pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Romo has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Romo went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Ables went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Romo a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alek Southerland, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Drew Siller was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases.

Hawley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Albany only posted an OBP of .259.

Hawley has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Albany, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-6-3.
