Baseball Recap: Weston Ranch Wins Going Away Against Mcnair

Weston Ranch's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the McNair Eagles with a sharp 12-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.

Nico Orona made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Jordan Paris was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Weston Ranch's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 6-9 when he doesn't). Fernando Vargas was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Weston Ranch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Weston Ranch's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for McNair, they are on a 27-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Weston Ranch will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
