Basketball Recap: Ivan Lyons Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Winside

Walthill won the last time they faced Winside and things went their way on Thursday too. The Blujays walked away with a 73-60 win over the Wildcats. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blujays.

Walthill's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ivan Lyons led the charge by shooting 56% from the field on his way to 27 points and three steals. Those 27 points gave Lyons a new career-high. Sirvell Rave was another key player, going 9-for-21 en route to 23 points.

Walthill was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Winside only posted two.

Despite the loss, Winside saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jahiem Hamik almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine boards. Hamik also set a new season-high mark in three-point shooting accuracy with 60%. Another player making a difference was Jayden Aschoff, who posted eight points.

Walthill's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Winside, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.

Coming up, Walthill will welcome Homer at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Winside, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 91-45 defeat against Winnebago on the 19th.
