Eastwood and Montwood are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Troopers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Montwood will be up against a hot Eastwood squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Troopers' pitcher stepped up to hand Coronado a 17-0 shutout on Saturday.
Emma Jauregui was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Jauregui was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Joselyn Echavarria was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Deja Churchill, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Eastwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Montwood entered their tilt with Coronado on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Thunderbirds 15-1.
Nevaeh Heredia was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with eight RBI and three doubles. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Soph Sandoval, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Montwood's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Eastwood, their victory bumped their record up to 28-4-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Eastwood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .411. However, it's not like Montwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .411. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
