Football Game Preview: Petrolia Pirates vs. Electra Tigers

The Petrolia Pirates will challenge the Electra Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Petrolia knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Electra likes a good challenge.

On Friday, Petrolia didn't have too much trouble with Haskell as they won 36-20. The Pirates pushed the score to 28-8 by the end of the third, a deficit the Indians cut but never quite recovered from.

Brodie Jackson and Kason Gee were among the main playmakers for Petrolia as the former gained 169 total yards and two touchdowns and the latter rushed for 96 yards and one touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Jackson a new career-high in receiving yards (40).

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Petrolia was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 308 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 308 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.

Another reason for the win was Petrolia's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In that department, John Dagenais was the leader with two. He is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as he's now posted at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 38 points the game before, Electra was a bit more limited in their game last Friday. They had to suffer through a 57-6 loss at the hands of Era. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Petrolia's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.7 points over those games. As for Electra, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Petrolia was dealt a bruising 36-6 defeat at the hands of Electra when the teams last played back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Pirates were down 36-6.
