Recap: Westwood Redhawks vs. Richland Northeast Cavaliers
The Westwood Redhawks won the last time they faced the Richland Northeast Cavaliers, and things went their way on Friday too. Westwood came out on top against Richland Northeast by a score of 44-33. Given Westwood's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Richland Northeast is ranked 138th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Makiah Thompson was her usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Williams, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Westwood has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. As for Richland Northeast, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-13.
Westwood will head out on the road to challenge James Island at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westwood is coming into the contest with three straight victories on the road, so James Island is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. Richland Northeast does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
