Softball Recap: Padua Franciscan Bruins vs. Holy Name Green Wave
Padua Franciscan extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 8-11 in the process. They came up short against the Holy Name Green Wave, falling 11-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Green Wave this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-9 back in April.
As for Holy Name, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. Considering they have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Holy Name's part, Reagan Vavro made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Vavro was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maura Mihalik, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Bailey Garlow was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Padua Franciscan will take on Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Holy Name, they will challenge Magnificat at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
