Basketball Recap: Aspen Skiers vs. Gunnison Cowboys
Aspen played a tough game on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 40-10 loss at the hands of the Gunnison Cowboys. While losing is never fun, the Skiers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 269th, while the Cowboys are ranked 118th).
Sienna Gomez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with ten points and ten boards for Gunnison. Gomez has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Yaslin Hernandez was another key player, putting up six points in addition to eight boards and three steals.
Aspen has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. The victory was the fourth in a row for Gunnison, bringing their record for this year to 15-7.
Coming up, Aspen will square off against Grand Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gunnison, they will challenge Roaring Fork at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
