Basketball Recap: Mountain Mission Gets Big Win over Higher-Ranked Pipestem Christian Academy

On Saturday, the Mountain Mission Challengers were able to grind out a solid victory over the Pipestem Christian Academy Panthers, taking the game 57-50. The win was all the more spectacular given the Challengers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 292nd in Virginia, while the Panthers are ranked 69th in West Virginia).

Despite the loss, Pipestem Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Enoch Gonderman, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 19 boards. The game was Gonderman's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Silas Mattox was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Mountain Mission is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Pipestem Christian Academy, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain Mission will host Varsity Opponent at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pipestem Christian Academy has already played their next contest (against Jefferson Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
