Baseball Recap: Argo Find Success

Argo proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 13) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Rich Township Raptors 5-3. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Argonauts also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Matt Mateyack spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Daniel Padilla was excellent, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Argo is 4-1 when Padilla posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Cristo Fernandez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Argo has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Rich Township, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-10.

Looking ahead, Argo will be playing at home against Shepard at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Argonauts are facing the Astros at the right time seeing as the Astros are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Rich Township, they will head out to square off against Thornwood at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Raptors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Thunderbirds have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
