AAA District 7 recap October 29, 2013

Riverdale scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Siegel, 21-19. At the time, the Stars were ranked seventh in the state, while the Warriors were 129th.

LaVergne moved up to 115 from 149 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAA District 7. The Wolverines climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Cookeville 28-21.

Smyrna's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Matt Rodell threw for 75 and 1 touchdown and Pernell Whittaker had 41 yards receiving. On the ground Ladarius Summers contributed 90 yards. Ladarius Turner helped Smyrna's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 19 yards.

Devon Smith was a passing and rushing force as the Bulldogs topped Stewarts Creek. Smith's favorite target this week was Whittaker, who caught 2 passes for 41 yards.

Whittaker was the best wideout in the league this week as Smyrna bested Stewarts Creek. Turner helped Smyrna's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 19 yards.

Smyrna's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Rodell has thrown for 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Darrel Harelson has 16 catches for 365 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Oakland takes on David Martin's team. As it stands, the Patriots are in first, while Stewarts Creek is in seventh.

Adding to the longest winning streak in AAA District 7 this week, Oakland beat Blackman 9-3. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
